THE MISSION

What’s in a Name???
blacker inkwe(ll)²s – The Mission

At this point, many people have asked me, “Yo, what does ‘blacker inkwells’ mean?” And I always have to spell my email address for people because they never can catch on to the whole scenario…so, here’s the science behind it:

blacker inkwe(ll)²s is an acronym of sorts, in the form of a word jumble like the ones you see in the newspapers near the comics section. If you switch the letters around, it spells the phrase:

“Killer Black’s well”

If you’re a hip-hop fan, you will know the name of the infamous Killer Black – QB Icon! That’s my family right there, who passed away and went home in April of 1997. We grew up together from the dirt; what makes it real deep for me is that his government name was Todd as well…

Killer Black and Big Noyd
Killer Black and Big Noyd

So I promised myself when he passed, that I’d work even harder at the dreams I had in life, because it wasn’t just about me anymore…it was about making sure part of TJ’s dreams and legacy lived on through me accomplishing my lifelong dreams. So all of this coming to life constantly reminds me that he is well, because as my dreams live on, so do his!!!

It was the best way I could think of to insure his memory would live on through me as best as possible…and always allow me to remember that while I am here, it is not always about me – or my own individual wants. Sometimes we can forget in the midst of our day-to-day struggles that we lose people everyday…and when you lose someone, there’s no going back until we get home ourselves to see them again. So for me, I want to make sure he can rest comfortably, smiling down knowing that his life does indeed live on in each and every one of us…

Me and DeaJames “Dea” Miller and Todd Craig

While the literary aspects of blacker inkwe(ll)²s comes from TJ’s and my own collective dreams, the inspiration for the music aspect of blacker inkwe(ll)²s comes from James “Dea Mill” Miller, who passed away and went home in August 2007. An influential DJ, uncle and mentor to many, he gave his life rescuing people from a burning apartment building. His life speaks to the selflessness required by humans in order to bring forth a greater good among a larger collective. In the spirit of the selfless actions of DJ Dea Mill, blacker inkwe(ll)²s merges the lives of these two artists in order to bring forth a multimedia, multidimensional company that applauds and celebrates their legacies.

With that in mind, blacker inkwe(ll)²s publishing group, LLC is a multimedia collective, dedicated to publishing and writing consultation for writers who have not been able to engage with the traditional mainstream publishing culture. blacker inkwe(ll)²s publishing group’s mission is to give these non-traditional writers a platform to spread their literature to the masses within mainstream culture. As well, blacker inkwe(ll)²s is dedicated and committed to working with these authors to establish multimedia and multi-genre projects that may include books, soundtracks, videos, documentaries, screenplays and more. We work with writers, poets, photographers, musicians, graphic artists and an array of other artists to bring multimedia projects to life from a literary vision. Thus blacker inkwe(ll)²s serves as a company devoted to multimedia artistic endeavors, that encompass the importance of a particular literary and artistic movement…

So if you think you’re ill, we’re iller than your’s over here…
You got that dope, think you’re fresh, we’re doper and fresher than you and your’s…
And if you think your ink writes black…
Our ink will always touch the page and bleed blacker than your’s…

That’s what’s in the name…

So infinite thanks for coming through to share in this moment. Now, let’s take a stroll through headquarters to see exactly how this mission translates into practice, and what this whole “blacker inkwells movement” is all about.
